A right royal Merry Christmas from us: Westminster Abbey remembers Kate and Wills wedding day in festive card By Lucy Buckland Last updated at 8:52 AM on 21st December 2011 It was one of the happiest events of the year and captured the heart of the nation.
So it is perhaps no surprise that Westminster Abbey decided to depict the Royal Wedding in April on its Christmas card. Based on the linocut design Smile Please by Hugh Ribbans the festive card shows the abbey with newlyweds Kate and William standing outside and crowds cheering. Merry Christmas! This year's Westminster Abbey Christmas card commemorates the Royal Wedding And although the market is flooded with Christmas gifts commemorating the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's special day, this card is touching in its simplicity of design.
It also marks a 1,000-year history between the abbey and the royals. Both William and Kate are said to have wanted the abbey for their wedding because of its links to the royal family. Just after the couple announced their wedding date Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, private secretary to Prince William, said they chose Westminster Abbey for its 'staggering beauty', 1,000-year royal history and intimacy despite its size. Precious moment: The Christmas card depicts the moment Prince William of Wales and Catherine Middleton left Westminster Abbey as man and wife |
