A new picture of Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) with his mask on and revealing his new web-shooters has been released. The new Spider-Man film, called Amazing Spider-Man, opens in 3D on July 3.

This photo seems to show that compassion for another might not just be a human emotion, as a hippo tries to save a wildebeest which broke its back while crossing the Masai River in Kenya during the annual migration. Wildlife photographer Mitchell Krog captured a hippo trying to help the wildebeest which became stuck on a submerged rock in the river. He says: "One of the more mature hippo bulls eventually came very close to the wildebeest and tried nudging him a few times to see if he could free the animal from the rocks. This proved useless and eventually this same hippo grabbed the wildebeest on his back using his mouth and dragged it clear of the rocks and into a deeper section of river where he then released it into the river flow. Due to the fact the wildebeest's back was broken from the fall he could not swim and took his last few breaths and disappeared underwater. It was tough to watch a struggling animal, it always is, but it was consoling to see the animal put to rest humanely by the hippo."

It looks as if these leaf cutter ants are in Valentine's Day mood, as they carry red hearts back to their nest. But their keeper, at Marwell Wildlife near Winchester, Hants, lent a hand, by cutting the ants' favourite foods into the right shapes for them...

...Dan Lay said: ""With Valentine's Day, I thought it would be fun to carefully carve the ants' favourite food into heart shapes. I used red peppers and spotted laurel leaves and the leaf cutter ants were soon gathering and picking up the hearts, taking them off to their nest."

Mick Freakley spotted this pair of bright red lips rising out of the water when he was on his boat on the Norfolk Broads. "I was looking at the scenery and the red dogwood made it look as though there was a huge pair of red lips coming out of the water," said Mick, a keen amateur photographer from Kilby, Leicestershire. "The red stems looked amazing in the sunlight and I thought it would be the perfect shot for Valentine's Day. I expect it will be a popular place for couples today."
